I recently came across the term “thought-leader”, and it struck me that we really need more people to take leadership to raise awareness and promote conversations.

From her I learned that business isn’t personal. That you can be totally honest in a business collaboration and laughing as friends in the next breathe.

I am probably the most perfectly unqualified person to write a blog on the theme of Pursuit at this point in my life. I have been tangled up in a riddle of direction or should I say lack of. I feel like a pinball machine lately smacking off the bumpers, lighting up for a few seconds when an idea hits and then bam on to the next thing.

Recent nominee, RBC Women of Influence, Sarah Swain is a kindred spirit. She so deeply believes in other women that she created an entire platform to showcase their voices, The Great Canadian Woman. She is unequivocal in her perseverance to show up. The change she demands of the world, she reflects in all of her endeavours.

This month we’ve been digging into Integrity, and boy did it throw me sideways.

When God planted this seed in my subconscious last year, to change our March theme to Integrity, I didn’t question Him but I also didn’t give it much thought.

Devon is a woman of substance and wisdom so that many would be surprised at her relative youth. She approaches business with passion and an intense desire to evoke change. She is a disrupter, entrepreneur and her leadership extends far beyond fashion.

It’s worth asking, they might just say yes!

We are responsible to others by showing compassion, listening, having honest sometimes hard conversations and by being transparent with our own boundaries.

Rather than avoiding and running away due to fear of the other person’s reaction, we want to lean into this and use it as an opportunity to grow deeper in relationship.

Just this week I had a really tough convo, it wasn’t planned but was birthed out of my naivety and immaturity. I was called out for a comment that could be interpreted as racist.

Is my fragility stopping me from just calling it what it is? Maybe.

There is so much to say about this beautiful human. Krystal is a nurturer, optimist, poet, mother, entrepreneur and artist. Her spirit of embracing challenges with resilience and transparency has garnered her a loyal following. She is deeply rooted in her relationship with God... even when the ground is hollow under her feet.

As Mona said ‘this community is determined to create a new culture for women to be able to see themselves differently. I am the only hijabi, Muslim member and I have been welcomed with open arms.’

So when asked ‘why did I create the well’ I guess I wanted to share my resources with as many women as I could.

Let me tell you something, your identity is not a one day revelation. Many people take years to understand their identity, and how they are perceived in this world. Often people avoid this due to past trauma or a misunderstanding of the word.

Perhaps they don’t like who they are, or haven’t achieved what they anticipated. The thing is, you cannot achieve identity. It’s a part of you, it’s your very essence, it’s not good nor bad, it just is.
