WHAT STEPS DID YOU TAKE TO GET TO WHERE YOU ARE NOW?
I was never that kid who wrote religiously in a journal... or at all, for that matter, and only got started in my late 20s. Once I began though, I always wrote in some capacity or another. I kept taking classes and trying different genres and had some success self-publishing, but that was never the end goal. So I'm super excited that my first "real" novel, The Many Alters of Astrid Hayes, will be released in the summer of 2020 by Inkyard Press.
HOW DO YOU STAND OUT IN YOUR FIELD?
Honestly, hard work and focus. So many people assume that coming up with great ideas is the hardest part of writing, but truly it's the many, many hours spent in front of the computer that gets the job done.
WHY DO YOU DO WHAT YOU DO?
My personality is a weird combination of needing a lot of creativity but I also thrive on organization and logic. Writing speaks to this by requiring a sort of abandoned focus with intensely creative aspects, but also the planning and execution of a large project.
WHAT TYPES OF COLLABORATIONS ARE YOU INTERESTED IN?
Copywriting/copyediting. I'd be open to considering any collaborations - I love a variety of projects.
WHAT IS YOUR NUMBER ONE WAY TO GET INSPIRED?
This is probably the unpopular answer, but unfortunately I can't wait around for inspiration to strike. At the same time though, there's nothing like that feeling of being in the flow when inspiration does seem to be channelling through you.
WHAT WOULD YOU TELL YOURSELF AT THE START OF YOUR CAREER TO HELP EASE YOUR FEARS?
Rejection just doesn't matter. You can always try again.
WHAT NEEDS REVAMPING IN YOUR LIFE RIGHT NOW?
Figuring out my ideal long-term plan.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE PROJECT YOU ARE WORKING ON RIGHT NOW?
I'm super excited to be collaborating with my new editor at Inkyard Press to make my novel amazing over the coming months.
