WHAT STEPS DID IT TAKE TO GET YOU TO WHERE YOU ARE NOW?
It was definitely not a straight path to this field. After highschool I went to the University of Saskatchewan and ended up in the Edwards School of Business. I came out with a Bachelor of Commerce degree majoring in Human Resources. I started working in the Labour Relations field & I quickly realized that this was not the right fit for me.
While attending University I was having trouble with low back pain. I started taking Pilates classes & fell in love. While finishing my degree I began my first Pilates certification. After certifying, I started teaching part-time after working at my "real" job. Teaching energized me. I could feel exhausted coming from work at 5pm but then teach until 9pm that night and feel uplifted again.
So after a mere 3 years in LR I made the bold switch & quit my day job. I joined a studio & started teaching. I went on to certify in TRX, Booty Barre, Essentrics, Block Therapy, & as a Postural Therapist with NPI. I obtained my professional designation as a Certified Pilates Instructor through the Pilates Method Alliance. Then I went through my second certification as Pilates instructor, bridging with Balanced Body's program and becoming a Balanced Body Faculty Member which allows me to certify instructors through the organization.
Most recently, I became a Nutritious Movement certified Restorative Exercise Specialist. I absolutely love learning and each certification has given me a different perspective on movement.
After having my son I decided it was the right time to start my own studio out of my home. My amazing husband finished our basement and I filled it with two Pilates reformer/towers, two chairs, & a core align. I love teaching one-on-one and small group classes so I set my business to match.
HOW DO YOU STAND OUT IN YOUR FIELD?
My focus is on you & what your body needs. I do not teach Pilates as a way to get fit. I teach it as a way to enhance your quality of movement & help you age gracefully. I try to offer a compassionate environment for you to let go of what's holding you back & explore your movement. I use imagery to help you move from a deeper place. I only offer private and semi-private lessons because it gives us the opportunity to really dive into your movement & it feels different than a group class. My most recent certification, as RES, also gives me a unique perspective on your alignment & how you can change it.
WHY DO YOU DO WHAT YOU DO? WHY DO OTHERS CARE?
I love teaching. I love the deep work, the layered learning, the feeling my clients get after a lesson. I am inspired by my clients & I love helping people live pain free. Pilates is not about fitness for me. It's about movement. For each client & each lessons I ask myself "how can I get you to move better & enhance your quality of life?" That looks different on everyone and I love the challenge.
WHAT TYPE OF COLLABORATIONS ARE YOU LOOKING FOR? ARE COLLABS OF INTEREST TO YOU?
I'm open to collaborations. I would love to collab with others in the health field who want to work together to improve a clients quality of movement. But, I am open to others if you have something you think would be cool. Just reach out!
WHAT IS YOUR NUMERO UNO WAY TO GET INSPIRED?
Hands down my clients. Helping them work through the different layers of their movement & old compensation patterns always helps me learn & create. We try something and then they express how it feels & lightbulbs go off for me. "Ooohh we should do this next". Anyone who has worked with me knows I do not follow a lesson plan!
WHAT WOULD YOU TELL YOURSELF AT THE START OF YOUR CAREER TO HELP EASE YOUR TROUBLED MIND?
"You can choose courage or you can choose comfort. You cannot have both" - Brene Brown Honestly, just to be brave and have the courage to do what you love without fear of judgement from others.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE PROJECT YOU’RE WORKING ON AT THIS TIME?
I am working on a little mini workshop series to help people change their alignment & unlock their movement potential! I can't wait to teach it!
