WHAT STEPS DID IT TAKE TO GET YOU TO WHERE YOU ARE NOW?
As a little girl, I always played with my mothers makeup. I would do all of my friend's makeup for fun and make my dad let me give him pedicures. I always loved pampering people.
I am such a believer of doing what you love, and after witnessing so many people floating through their day to day in careers that stressed them out, I promised myself I would always choose happiness. Following a year of university I quickly took courses to become certified in professional makeup artistry and aesthetics services.
After gaining extensive experience in spas and salons throughout SK, I decided to open my own studio in the heart of riversdale and I haven't looked back since. I wake up every morning excited to go to work, and genuinely love spending time with each and every one of my guests. They learn from me, and I learn something from every single one of them. I am so lucky.
HOW DO YOU STAND OUT IN YOUR FIELD?
My artistry and services are not intended to COVER a person and change the way they look. They are meant to enhance your natural features and change the way you FEEL about your true self. My services are intended to make you feel worthy of love and pampering, and to show that everyone is beautiful in their own unique ways. We were born this way, let's learn to love on ourselves!!
WHY DO YOU DO WHAT YOU DO? WHY DO OTHERS CARE?
If one person walks away from one of my services feeling even a little more confident, i've done my job.
WHAT TYPE OF COLLABORATIONS ARE YOU LOOKING FOR? ARE COLLABS OF INTEREST TO YOU?
I love collaborations! My favourite type of collaborations are when each creative gets to be artistic and contribute their vision towards the project. Photo shoots, like Tammy's 'As I Am - Body Diversity' Campaign is my jam. It couldn't be a better fit for me and what my business is all about.
WHAT IS YOUR NUMERO UNO WAY TO GET INSPIRED?
I get inspired by surrounding myself with the right people. I LOVE learning from other artists and professionals in the industry. I've assisted and worked alongside a few other artists and I take so much knowledge and inspiration away every single time.
WHAT WOULD YOU TELL YOURSELF AT THE START OF YOUR CAREER TO HELP EASE YOUR TROUBLED MIND?
It’s okay to be afraid and to fail at things along the way. It will help you find what aspects of your goals are really important to you. Let that fear light a fire under your butt and become your motivation.
WHAT NEEDS REVAMPING IN YOUR LIFE OR CAREER RIGHT NOW?
I want to focus 2019 on doing only the things that i'm fully behind and truly passionate about. (in work and in life). Sometimes I say yes too much, and I'm going to make 2019 the year of 'no' and being perfectly okay with it.
WHO INSPIRES YOU, OR MENTORS YOU?
I have many people that inspire me in the industry but I really want to be specific on the few major inspos in my life.
Kara Firman - Hairstylist, & Owner of GUIDE Hair Salon. I've known Kara for almost a decade and have watched her grow into the huge success she is today. The biggest characteristic that I admire about Kara is how HUMBLE she has stayed through it all. Even though I truly see her as famous and pretty much a super hero, she never acts above anyone. She truly is GOALS as a business owner (and human being), in all aspects.
Lisa Hallam- Saskatoon Makeup Artist. She is my spirit animal and I LOVE how real she is. I swear she is one of the best makeup artists in Canada.. her her attention to detail is like no other, and her talent is flawless. The beauty industry can be a very tough place, but not with people like Lisa. She is ALWAYS helping other artists grow and lift each other up. She is also freakin' hilarious.
Tammy Zdunich- Photographer & Owner of the Well Collaborative. I've had the privilege of knowing Tammy for quite a few years and I honestly feel like my life is richer after knowing her. What inspires me about Tammy is how she has always been a free bird. She lives to do what she wants, and doesn't let others hold her back. She lives to serve people and I don't think I'll know anyone else who does it so openly and so well. The Well is truly the heart of Tammy. What do all of these women have in common? They ALL try to lift other women up. Whether it's hairstylists, photographers, or other makeup artists, they all offer platforms for women to come together and grow. They don't see others as competition, but as a team. They all take their extensive knowledge and personal experiences from over the years, and use it to help others rise to the top. We would all be lucky to have even an ounce of these ladies' hearts.
Love. Them. All.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE PROJECT YOU’RE WORKING ON AT THIS TIME?
Lindee Heffner and I have collaborated for the last few years and we are working on our second series. I can't wait to see how it plays out! She is a crazy talented photographer and I feel like we work together so well.
